View Full Version : pk3
Hey,
I just wrapped up my map to pk3.
I read the tutorial, I think I got it but, I dont. :)
I sent my .pk3 downstairs to my other computer.
I couldnt select my map in the create server option in wolf.
I had to /devmap.
What did I do wrong??
And... the door texture, err, I fogot the name, wasnt showing up.
It was blank. The downstairs comp is updated so, it has to have the file.
Why isnt it showing up?
I tried the pk3 wrap in wolfcompile..it says arena file missing??
Shit !!! will I ever get this damn thing done!!!

Wolfcompile will make an arena file for you. Open up a custom pk3 and see how things are organized. The door must be a custom tex and must be included in the pk3.
I would not use wolfcompile to make my pk3. It tends to leave things out or add things not needed. I would just make the folders and zip it. Then rename the .zip with .pk3. you can use wolfcompile to make the arena file if you want which is fine. It will be located in the scripts folder once made, just place it in your scripts folder.
Note: make sure use folder names is not checked when using the winzip program or it will pack everything in a folder and you won't see it in the menu screen when playing RTCW...........
mp_zmymap (folder to put the folders in)
maps (.bsp, pcx,map scripts.)
scripts (.arena .shader)
levelshots (jpg or tga of your level needs to be named same as your .bsp so mp_mymap.jpg)
Cameras ( located by itself, used for spotlights or other sp camera effects.)
textures ( folders with custom textures)
this should get you started......
fun mapping.......
thanks but....
I didnt get no arena file ???
The pk3 came out fine, well, I sent it to my other comp and it plays like the original..
except...
I cant seem to find it when I create server... I have to /devmap
?????
Someone plz help!!!!
Find a custom map, unpack it, find arena file copy it to your map rename it, open it with note pad and change the information to what you need.
Dt
done.
I did a wolf pk3 thing, it had alot of extra shaders, small file sizes, so I dont give a damn.
When i tried to take them out, it kept getting phuqt up so,
I dont give a damn anymore, I want my life back.
Gonna give it to my friends to beta test it.
I hope they phuqin like it, coz its been one hell of a ride, and it aint over yet.
My sky sux. Oh well.:D

I'm having a similar problem. I made the .pk3 and doublechecked it. The .arena file is in there. When I make a server to play it, it gives me the option of playing a number of maps, but not the one I made. Is there a special line or command I need for my RTCW_mp to recognize my .pk3 and play it?
Thanks!

Try removing some custom maps. You might have too many. :x
Sounds like your Arena file is wrong or file name problem.......

Good point. I had our server provider get on me for uploading too many maps onto the server. He said there was a bug (or as a programmer would say.. 'a feature') that limited the amount of maps RTCW's ui could handle to 30.

I still can't open my .pk3 file using RTCW unless I pull down the command prompt and use the \devmap command.
I use winzip 8.1 (evaluation version), and nowhere do I see an option to "use folder names", or more importantly, to uncheck it. Could this be why my .pk3 won't register when I make a server with RTCW multiplayer?
Thanks

unpack your pk3 to a empty folder, make sure the file struture is ok. If it is, then copy a knowen working arena file rename it to match your map, copy the contents from your old arena to the new file and deleat the old. Try again (some times the script files can become corrupt but will appear all right).

I tried this. I did it with another map/.pk3 (caldera), but the same problem- doesn't show up when I make a server as a map. I assume this is an arena problem.
My arena file text is:
{
map "caldera"
longname "AxisCaldera"
type "wolfmp wolfsw"
timelimit 10
axisRespawnTime 10
alliedRespawnTime 10
}
it is named the same as the .bsp, ie, "caldera.arena"
It is in the "maps" folder of the .pk3, along with "caldera.bsp"
Any thoughts?
Thanks again.

OK, I answered my own question... I had the arena file in the maps folder, not the scripts folder where it should me. A total Noob mistake. Its fixed now.
Thanks.
