Special forces mod news

I see the special forces mod has closed, with the webmaster proceeding to give a big statement, he goes on about how its the wrong time to make mods and how rtcw will not be played when most mods are finished, well there not going to be as popular after a few years thats pretty obvious common sense, whats more is he mentions new games coming out (he even mentions rainbow 6 as if thats ever popular anyway) as if you should mod for them, yet after these new games more new games will come out, its an endless cycle, its just because some famous games are coming out this year, but people making mods should be in it for a hobby and as entertainment, then it doesnt matter, you know some people will still be playing the game no matter when you release, its not as if we are all playing only 1 game our whole lifes.

Also he proceeds to say "dod is more popular than rtcw and mohaa put together" he even quotes gamespy stats site, yet mohaa is more popular than dod no matter what dod players say, infact its twice as popular at the moment, dod has 3000 players, mohaa has 6000, its annoying to hear lots of people say "gamespy stats is wrong" so what is right? an unbias site listing factual stats or hear say or halflife only sites? anyway we are talking 3000 people difference here, its a shame dod players just think dod is more popular when it isnt. I like dod myself but im not as ignorant as a lot of dod players and I find it very annoying that special forces quotes the stats site and ignores the figures given.

He also basically says a lot of stuff most mod makers know, like its stuff everyone hasnt heard before! he says people on the team dont have as much done as you like, wow you dont say!! its another case of someone starting a mod on a whim having no real idea, thats the problem that mod had, no idea and started for the wrong reasons, probably started it to make money or on a whim and never really thought about it enough or why he was doing it, he even has links to amazon to buy the new games he mentioned, thats the kinda person he is. He also virtually tells rtcw mod makers to stop, well I say dont stop, dont think about how many people will be playing it think about what you will of achieved and what fun you had making it, at the end of the day new games are released all the time if you never stick to one you will never finish a mod.

His tip for budding mod makers is to "join an unreal 2003 mod third reich" that apparently "looks pretty good so far" called third reich, thing is mr special forces guy, according to there website its an unreal tournament mod not unreal 2003, kinda shows us just how stupid that guy is.

Well said Eyeronik

RTCW modding is alive and well, thank you very much. Pearl Harbor is very close to releasing a beta, and The Great Crusade, although earlyer in developement, is shapeing up to be an exellent mod.

As you said mod making is for fun and experience. I know I have learned a great deal in the short time I have been involved.

Not everyone has the time or desire to work on a mod, but the support of the community is important to those that do. Visit the sites, post feedback in their forums, show your support.

If you would like to become more involved, thats great too. : )

This is an old thread, but a good point. Many times people go to the ends of the earth following the "latest greatest". Whereas there's nothing wrong with that to keep up to date so to speak, there are some who panic and move all over the place for the wrong reasons. I am a bit curious as to other engines, yes, however it would be meaningless for me to turn out sub-par material just to get my name on a list so to speak. To try to play for attention of a sp_wolf fanbase is laughable. "Hurry up, there's little time left, they're running away!" Hah ha. Bye. I make my stuff to turn it out for mappers/ designers and share concepts. The technical and artistic aspect. Nothing to get up about, but I just wanted to comment. We are on a similar page in this regard. Mind you I wouldn't mind being able to dish out material quicker, but, the stuff I've covered so far, I can now do without thinking much, so it will make that much the difference when it is done. I've never had this much control over an interactive medium of sight and sound before and I love it. It really helps knowing the engine inside out. From what I gather the gui and construct of mapping software and technique is not "galacticaly" different across the board. I suppose my interest in other types is additive not opposing, in the sense it would be interesting to deal with new complexities skillfully.

Anyways that's that. ;)
