don't know which is best but there's one that is free, it's gmax from discreet, i think milkshape is for free as well but guess gmax is better

Yeah I've already got GMAX but I can't load or import the wolf models into it. Either I'm doing something wrong or it can't load md3' s.

there are importers and exporters for that, but i don't know how to do it and where you get them, a search through this forum and those of tramdesign and rtcw.co.uk should help!

milkshape is free for 30 days, and they do have a tut somewhere. I downloaded gmax and was completely and utterly clueless as to what to do... I gues Ill stick to brushes in radient. Id like to make a 16 inch battleship gun (forgot the cm designation) and a few electric locomotives for my ammo train in the atlantic wall series, the wheel truck for trains that is in radient is grossly out of scale, and I would love to import that and make it wider so my cars and loco's could be in scale, some heavy duty triple axle trucks would be good for the locomotives, or "motors" as theyre sometimes called.

Well, using the not so standard conversion of 2.5 CM = 1 Inch, that'd be 40, though I don't think that's right. Seems like trains are the way to go these days.

hmm www.convert-me.com or maybee its www.convertme.com is a good site for that. I gota go out back behind my house and measure the gauge, I think its 11.5 feet. Anyhow it didnt hit me untill I built a switcher engine for my map, the thing had no room for the player, pissed me off no end untill i realized that the wheel trucks are too small, theyre like something for a narrow gauge railroad. Now that I think of it, european gauge is narrower than US, but It cant be that small, not lionel sized lol.

Yea trains are neat, I think they fit the industrial, macho building to building warefare catagory. Lots of coal ducts, water towers, loud noises, steam operated switches (looks like something out of doom when those switches piss out steam on a cold night, reflecting the colors of the signals **shiver shiver**) yard towers, round houses (read eye's phone book of an article for more on them lololol)

Maybee that would be a neat MP map, something like the rail yard in enemy at the gates, lots of places for snipers maybee, since none likes them, althugh that bell tower in normandy breakout was tits, had "Snipers Only" practicaly written on it hehehe

I found a good tutorial for beginner modellers that tells u how to use GMAX-3DSMAX and milkshape to make md3's.
http://richdiesal.jedioutcastmaps.com/tutorials/vol_cm.html

And to get the GMAX plugin for md3's go to here
http://www.gmaxsupport.com/html/download.asp , and click on tempest game pack. The pack is designed for Quake3 but can be used with RTCW.

Though I am late to reply,

I'm using "MD3 Compiler" instead of Milkshape. At the beginning of my modeling "freeware" was the reason why I chose it, but now it's the best for me.
http://www.planetquake3.net/download.php?op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=481&ttitle=Npherno's_MD3_Compiler_and_MD3_Viewer

And a small tips, I am placing "md3exp.dle" and "tempest.dlo" to gmax\plugins, then I can export MD3 without rebooting tempest.

I've been making some MD3 models for my maps or for my helmets with this combination:)

thanks for the tip:D, it is so bloody annoying always having to go back and forth between gmax and tempest
