View Full Version : Enemy Territory, worth the download
I just went to RTCWfiles to download Enemy Territory when I saw that its a WHopping 257Mb!! Now as a 56K modemer I worked out it would take me 16hours to download as long as I had the same rate over that period, but one has to ask, who in their right mind would bother to download such a huge file. Can anyone tell me what I am missing, and in terms of RTCW is it a must have. Also is there much improvement in graphics and playability or is it just the same RTCW with new badging?

Well it remains to be seen how popular it will get. Word is that SD will not be releasing the source code which is bad news for the mod community so I probly wont play with it much myself.

i really like it and think it's worth the download! don't you know anybody with a faster connection who could download it for you?
Yeah I know a few people with ADSL, I just wanted to know if it was worth wasting their time or not. Midnight_Oil you said that they won't be releasing the source code, why's that? You would think that for a addon that isn't being sold, or used to make profit that they would be happy to let the mod community rip into the game and make it more intriging:confused: . I guess they may still have some bigger plans for it.

We had a discussion about that at the GC forum. We couldnt really figure out why they wont release. Lets face it, the Q3 engine is getting old so they couldnt really have much for clever tricks to protect. I think its a bad move for them but then we never got very much support for RTCW either.

no i don't think they have a bigger plan, i think they just didn't build it in a way that makes it easily possible to give out only parts of the source code for mod teams...

It's only a good game if you have a fast computer. A 950Mhz Duron is a bit too slow for it, though the Duron is the ass-end of the AMD processor line...
From a playing view Im stuck with a small system which dont play the game well(duron EEK! mine ant that bad, but not far of:( )
From a mp mapping view I think that its a great toy. They have fixed a number of problems which means realy big maps can be made to work very well. Also all the new scripting comands and entitys mean a lot more variety in game objectives.
....and I love all the plants:p
The only down side is the amount of work it leaves for one person to do. Unless you are working as part of a team, it will take a long time to make something worth while.

Its more popular than wolfenstein ever was or got to even in the height of its popularity, its unbelievable but ET got to #2 although bf1942 must of crashed stats wise, but ET is still around top 3! its very popular indeed, and its really good i think. Im really enjoying it, certainly worth downloading, its better than rtcw imo
just realised theres no bots for it is there, hmm, oh well
Well i'm convinced, if it is almost as good as BF1942 it must half decent. All I have to do now is convince one of my friends to download it for me:cool:

Iv joined a clan resently, so Im about in wolf and et as:

After playing a couple of weeks of ET I can't get enough of it:D I was amazed that my computer could run it (P3 450, 16bit TNT, 310MbRAM) and with 56k modem its still playable. I noticed when you put tris on in ET, that if a object is infront of you, anything behind that is not drawn. Either they have a bloody lot of hint brushes or some new nifty way of designing things.

there is a special option to set with tris to see the normal tris, otherwise it's culled by fog and everything... look at rtcw.co.uk they have a thread about it
