Well, I am impressed by all the responses to the questions in this forum. Great Job on the shader question there EyeRonik!!!
I myself have zero time to map right now, but am playing with 3dsmax.
Lets keep in mind the best maps come from the heart, not what you think people will like. There are so many RTCW maps with what I call dead space. Most of the weapons are given to you so there is no reason to go several hallways down to a secluded room to end up with nothing. Being creative with engine limits and gameplay in mind is a challenge. Keeping players in the action while getting your ideas in 3d without to much slowdown takes forthought and skill.
Know your editor in and out. Read the shader manuel over as well as all the articles you can get your hands on. Being limited with your knowledge of the editor will only frustrate you. Know how leafnods are arranged and know what will split them. The point?? Learn, Learn, Learn..........
True love of mapping does not limit you to just RTCW. You can get alot of ideas playing other games and playing with there map editors. We have Unreal Tournament 2003 out now. Truly awsome graphics though not much for shadows.
Play with Maya or 3dsmax. you can learn alot from these tools that will just make you better.
For those I have seen grow in knowledge and have helped other I say super job.
remember: Mapping Extreme.........
