OK, I'm obviously a dummy, but I still don't get the proper directory structure for setting up GTK to work with RtCW. I have it working, but I know it is not correct.

Can someone please post the complete directory structure they are using, from the top level of RtCW down. If you happen to have q3map2 and easygen installed, all the better.

Thanks for your help.

well you can install easygen anywhere, and well q3map can be anywhere if your using batch files to compile and i guess with wolfcompile as well. Ive never put anything in the gtkradiant folder myself, do you mean the gtkradiant or the radiant folder thats in wolf folder, really though i dont know what your having troubles with default install puts everything in the right place so if its working then everythings ok normally :)

Well, not actually having trouble per se. But judging by answers I see to questions I don't have it right.

For example, my .bsp's and .maps are in rtcw/main/maps, so I don't have to move them there after compile. But what about custom textures - where do I put them? There is no textures directory in RtCW, because they are in the .pak files.

Similarly, when gtk loads, it complains of too many textures. Now over on q3forums they said to edit the .pak file and delete the textures I was not using. Now I can't see myself editing the .pak file that comes with Wolf, so this implies some other arrangement than what I am using.

Any help appreciated.

Good Day
make a folder called textures in main. add new folders to this for your custom textures.
when they said remove pk3s i think they were refuring to custom map that have been downloaded. i wouldn't remove any of wolfs pk3s.

when rad opens, can you make stuff, rooms ext?

I use to get a warning when i open rad, something similar to what you get, but it dont stop me mappin. i had about 20 custom maps in wolf, did a reinstall and every thing now works fine.

if you put it on shaderlist only it wont list the custom maps textures, so it shouldnt give any warning, in theory at least.

Yes, I can make rooms and everything like that ok. Not a problem there.

There problem is I can't get to the texture sets pass ones that start with "v". In other words, I can't get to texture set "wood" for example. My texture sets end at village, because I've reached the limit of textures that GTK can handle.

If I limit to shaders only, I won't get the texture sets I want, that don't have shaders, like "wood".

If no-one else has this problem, it must be the way I have it setup.

I have GTK in a separate directory from Wolf, but it points to the Wolf directory. I have not added any directories under Wolf. Is that correct so far?

ok, that is really weird, but sometihng similar happened to me. The first time i installed radiant i had all of the textures and everything was working fine but, as time went on i noticed that i was missing things. For example: in the Xlab textures i was missing the xlab_floors and xlab_doors. I was also missing all of the skies for some reason. What i did was i went to: edit>prefrences. I set everything back to the defaults and i had everything back again. If this helps you please let me know. Thanks.

If that dosen't work, try setting your resoultion up.

No, it's not to do with preferences or resolution. The console log actually says that max textures have been reached.

GTK obviously has an array only so large, and when it is full no more textures will load. This is what I am hitting.

I feel sure the answer is in the structure of my directories, and I need someone to show me how they have theirs setup.

Was it like that when you installed it? that is really odd, i have all of the textures in mine and i have reached no such limit. Maybe though i doubt this will work, make a folder on your desktop and put all of the textures that you don't want to use in there, or atleast some of the so you will have room to load the others. If you don't want to try that then, i really can't help you out, it never happened to me.

Goodness. For the life of me I can't see how a desktop shortcut could work.

Really, as requested so long ago now, if someone could just post their directory structure......

Good Day All

C:\RTCW\main\
levelshots\
maps\
screenshots\
scripts\
textures\
models\
prefabs\

tools\(I have my tools folder elsewhere in C:\. In here I have q3maps, easygen and a few other bits.)
Radiant\ is in the RTCW folder.

This should be the default set-up; you should only have to add textures and prefabs.

This problem of yours is truly screwy.

If you have a small hard drive, don’t unpack pk3s to your hard drive, burn them on to CDs. You only need mp_pak0 and pak0. This will be of use to you latter.

When I start up rad’ it loads up shaders,(my problem was shaders not textures) to then use a texture I go to the “Textures” tab and select the folder that I wish to work from and only these textures will be loaded.

You say you get this error message in the console log. After you start rad a small window comes up, there an option to load game and log the console to radiant log, both should be unchecked or they could afect the way the editor runs.

Dont know if this is any help.

Stick with it chap, hopefully we will get you up and running soon

Groovy. Now we are getting somewhere.

What do you have in your textures folder? A .pak file, or, something else?

Regards and thanks

ps Where is gtk installed? Somewhere else?

In the texture folder there should be a folder with textures in, exapale textures/detoeni/dt_wall.tga.
I have GTK in C:/program files/Gtkradiant.

as eye sez click shader list text in the textures (drop down thingy) just above assault(texture list)
to add more textures to the shorter (official) list then edit the shaderlist.text file in c:/progfiles/wolf/main/scripts
edit with notepad just type in the foldername of the textures u want

this is normal radiant can only load up somany texture folders
so u shorten the list to get in what u want.

so add the ones you dont get to the shaderlist, its not shaders only, its shaderlist only, shaderlist is a text file in scripts with what textures to load up, ie add "wood" then you will of solved the problem as wood will appear in the textures menu.

Ahhhhh - now I didn't know that. I thought it was for shaders only.

I will give that a try tonight and see what transpires. If it works, problem solved!
